Obituary of Alastair Stewart Preston

July 8, 1947 – Glasgow, Scotland

March 23, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Alastair Preston was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 8, 1947. He immigrated to Canada with his parents, Doctors Margaret and Kenneth Preston, and brothers in 1957. Alastair married Carolyn in May 1988 in Calgary.

 

He was a member of the Calgary Unitarians, serving in their choir for many years. He was also a member of the St. Andrew-Caledonian Society and was a member of their Gaelic Choir. He did find time to be a member of the Calgary Model Railway Society and the Calgary British Railway Modellers Club. Alastair had a passion for photography, opera, classical music, and computers.

 

Besides his loving wife, Alastair is survived by his five siblings and two stepbrothers; Ian (Carmen), Niall (Sandy), Ross Tayler (Patty), Catherine, Don (Ruth), John (Diane), Chris, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Alastair was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Margaret Preston (Brown) and Dr. Kenneth Preston, his stepmother, Abhainn Preston, and his in-laws, the Reverends James Ockley and Sheila Ockley (Gordon).

 

Funeral Services will be held at Calgary Unitarians (1703 1 St NW, Calgary, AB T2M 4P4) on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

 

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Alastair’s service streamed live on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
