Obituary of John David Walmsley

Jack Walmsley of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the age of 84 years.

Jack is survived by his loving wife Marion, children, David (Susan), Elaine, Jayson (Drena); grandchildren, Mitchell (Tanna) Jacob, Michael, Kaylynn and Samantha; brother Jim (Olga) of Penticton, Jill’s family, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Lloyd and Viola Walmsley of Watson, SK, sister Barbara Walmsley, and twin sister Jill Greilich, who died twelve hours before Jack. 

He was born in Lanigan, SK, on July 16, 1939, and graduated in 1962 from The University of Saskatchewan as a civil engineer. He worked throughout Canada, the United States, and South America with Imperial Oil. He took a lot of pride in his work but was always able to find time for his family and many hobbies. 

Jack was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. A capable skier and golfer, Jack enjoyed both of these activities well into his 70s. He was an avid fisherman, his exploits ranging from offshore fishing in the Atlantic while living in Miami in the 1980s, to salmon fishing off the west coast of Vancouver Island, as well as trout fishing in the many mountain streams and lakes of central BC. He also enjoyed hunting, countless early mornings spent hunting duck and geese, as well as many successful trips for antelope and deer in southern Alberta.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
